CoAqua Snapped Up by Gywneth Paltrow’s Goop Store

New Zealand coconut water brand, CoAqua has caught the eye of actor Gwyneth Paltrow and her team at Goop, her international “lifestyle” store.

The store, which offers “cutting-edge wellness advice from doctors, vetted travel recommendations, and a curated shop of clean beauty, fashion, and home”, has emailed CoAqua, a company that sells coconut water in glass bottles.

CoAqua posted on Facebook parts of a letter from Goop that says: “I am reaching out because CoAqua has been selected by Gwyneth Paltrow and the Goop buying team to be sold in our sundry shop … a permanent shop … planned to open in February.”

CoAqua owner Grier Govorko says he is “very excited” about the opportunity, particularly as it “came out of nowhere”. “We never spoke to them or reached out to them. They discovered CoAqua along the way and reached out to us, which is always the best way round.”

The move to stock CoAqua products opens up the Auckland company to a huge international market. Fortune magazine says Paltrow’s start-up is “gaining some serious traction with venture capitalists” and is now valued at US$250 million (NZ$371 million).
