8 Ways to Find Auckland’s Pulse

There’s plenty to do in Auckland, New Zealand, which is situated “between two harbours, Waitemata to the north and Manukau to the south.” An article on Women’s Magazine Femina’s website recommends eight great ways to get your finger on the pulse of the city of Auckland.

  1. Auckland Bridge Bungy: “The Auckland Bridge Bungy drops you right into the Waitemata Harbour from the Auckland Harbour Bridge.”
Walk the Harbour Bridge: If bungy jumping is not quite your thing, the article recommends walking the Auckland Harbour Bridge for some great views of the city and the harbour with the Auckland Bridge Climb.
  2. Check out the city markets: There are plenty of markets in Auckland; the article on Femina’s website endorses Victoria Park Market and the Auckland Fish Market on the waterfront, “comes with stalls selling fresh seafood, fruits and vegetables, but also cafes, wine-tasting venues, and a seafood school.”
  3. Get all artsy: Visit the Auckland Art Gallery, which is home to Maori and Pacific art, as well as international art – just right for a cultural fix in the city.
  4. Hit the water: “Sail around the harbour on a yacht, or go whale- and dolphin-spotting at the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park.”
  5. Get up high: “The 328-metre-high Sky Tower is one of the tallest buildings in the southern hemisphere, and the views from the top are guaranteed to be stupendous,” according to the article.
  6. Eat up! “Auckland is a city of good food, made with fresh produce and reflecting international influences.” Femina recommends Tanuki’s Cave on Queen Street, Burger Fuel and SPQR on Ponsonby Road.
  7. Bring home a piece of Auckland: Take home a great souvenir from one of the many shops. The article recommends the Greenstone Factory on New North Road.
