Little Bit Ahead of Everyone

Lynda Topp, one half of New Zealand’s beloved comedic country music duo, The Topp Twins, has made history as the first-ever lesbian to appear on the cover of New Zealand’s weekly Woman’s Day magazine. Topp married her partner of nine years, Donna Luxton, in a “true country hoe-down with cowboy hats, boots and plaid shirts alongside the bridal bouquet and wedding cake,” Australian blog SameSame reported. New Zealand’s Parliament is on the verge of legalizing marriage equality, and Topp told Woman’s Day she was eager to make it official with her wife. “Let’s get one thing straight,” Topp said. “This is not a civil union – it’s a marriage. We just happen to be a little bit ahead of everyone.”
