Dance Queen Parris Goebel Curates for UAE Expo

Celebrity choreographer Parris Goebel, 27, has been appointed head curator of the entertainment and cultural programme for the New Zealand pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai and will manage a series of events to be showcased throughout the six-month event. ArabianBusiness.com reports on the appointment of Goebel who presented her ideas for the event to Prime Minister and Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage Jacinda Ardern in Auckland.

The artist, who is known professionally as Parri$, rose to prominence working with music artists such as Little Mix, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Nicki Minaj.

Her biggest claim to fame was choreographing the video ‘Sorry’ for Canadian artist Justin Bieber in late 2016, which was one of the most watched videos on YouTube, currently with around three billion views.

“I’ve had a sneak preview of Parris’ plans and it is going to be spectacular and something New Zealanders will be very proud to have representing them,” Ardern said.

“Importantly it will also show the special role arts and culture play not only in our national identity but in boosting our economy and helping strengthen international relationships.”

“I am so excited to be curating the entertainment for Expo 2020 Dubai. This is something I am extremely passionate about and this is a huge honour for me. We will showcase New Zealand’s finest talent from music, dance, drama, street art and show the world what makes us special. Culture and heart will be at the forefront of our programme and all the other things us Kiwis take pride in,” Goebel said.

Expo 2020 Dubai will run from 20 October 2020 to 20 April 2021 and it is estimated the event will attract 25 million visitors to the UAE.
