Singapore Events Exec Matt Bennett Takes Time Off

New Zealander Matt Bennett, 47, is the managing director of events company Magic Rock, which is organising Magners International Comedy Festival in Singapore. Bennett divides his time between Singapore and Bangkok. He talks to the Straits Times about where he likes to spend his down time.

In the weekends, Bennett says he spends time at Singapore’s many hawker centres, open-air complexes with food stalls selling inexpensive food.

“My favourites are Old Airport Road Food Centre and Bendemeer Market & Food Centre. They are still underrated by foreigners and it is a pity as the food is great and there are lots of different stalls,” Bennett says. I tend to go to eateries with a nice environment and non-airconditioned areas. As an expatriate, I enjoy the Singapore weather.

“Otherwise, I just walk around the city to learn its past and how it has grown over the years through reading signs and plaques and visiting museums.”
