Ah, to be able to wear fur without fear of red paint. The possum’s status as NZ’s chief environmental menace has encouraged the fashion industry to use its fur for everything from bags to nipple warmers. Christchurch company Snowy Peak has successfully marketed knitwear made from possum fibre blended with merino wool, and is now focused on export.
