12 Things To Do in Queenstown

Queenstown offers “an incredible mix of gorgeous views, great food, fun outdoor activities, and more” writes Geoffrey Morrison for Forbes Magazine. The article collates the Top 12 things to do in the New Zealand city located at the base of steep mountains and on the edge of a lake.

1. Hike up Bob’s Peak – A great hike through the forest with fantastic views overlooking Queenstown. There are also other numerous hiking and mountain bike trails down the mountain.

2. Take the Gondola – Take in the view on the steepest gondola in the Southern Hemisphere.

3. Luge – Enjoy the view differently on one of the two luge tracks “where you sit in little plastic wheeled sleds, and race down.”

4. Bungy – There are several places you can bungy jump in Queenstown. One is adjacent to Bob’s Peak, another one is nearly 450 feet above the nevis river about 45 minutes outside of town.

5. Walk Queenstown Gardens and perhaps do some frisbee golf – Take a leisurely walk in the Queenstown Gardens and enjoy great views of the town, the mountains and the lake itself.

6. Jetboats – One of the big Queenstown attractions is taking a jet boat ride on Lake Wakatipu, that launches you out over the water and up the tributary canyons. “One company has a submersible that looks like a shark that dives under and up out of the water.”

7. Get a Fergburger – Every burger is a masterpiece at Fergburger –“the second best burger in the world.”

8. Excellent Asian food – Queenstown has many really good restaurants including multiple Japanese, Chinese, and Korean restaurants that are well worth a visit.

9. Cookie Time Cookie Muncher Cookie Bar – Everybody should try these incredible cookies.

10. Patagonia Chocolates – “Sit by the window and marvel at the mountains” with a delicious cup of hot chocolate or coffee.

11. Nightlife – “There’s quite a nightlife in” Queenstown with really good bars everywhere.

12. Street Fair – Every Saturday “local artisans hawk their wares at a street fair in the small park by the docks.”

If you visit Queenstown in Winter you should definitely do some skiing at the nearby ski resorts at The Remarkables and Coronet Peak.
