Tourists Returning to Region

Chief executive of Christchurch and Canterbury Tourism Tim Hunter says tourism numbers have been “firming up” over recent months after last year’s earthquake, a process which he sees as important to the region as a whole. “The recovery of tourism is very important to Christchurch due to the large number of visitors that populate our central city area and the fact that many travellers use Christchurch as a hub for day trips. It’s also a great place to begin and end a South Island road trip,” Hunter explains. Christchurch’s road to recovery will no doubt be a long and occasionally bumpy one, but the city, like its people, is made of stern stuff.
