With Light in Mind

A design by a group of Victoria University students, inspired by the New Zealand bach, is the first southern hemisphere entry in the international US Department of Energy Solar Decathlon competition held in Washington DC from September 23 to October 2. The FirstLight House has a strong focus on outdoor living, lots of natural daylight and a big emphasis on using locally sourced New Zealand materials. Construction is complete on the home, which was on display to the public throughout May in Wellington. The Solar Decathlon is a competition that challenges 2 collegiate teams to design, build, and operate the most attractive, effective, and energy-efficient solar-powered house.
