The people’s Campion

Jane Campion has been lured out of self-imposed retirement for a very worthy cause. She joins fellow directing luminaries Robert Altman, Jodie Foster and Gaspar Noe in contributing to an 8-part feature film outlining the United Nations’s Millennium Development Goals, which include eradicating extreme hunger and poverty and reducing child mortality by 215. Campion’s piece, The Water Diary, addresses environmental stability. The AU$6.4 million project is helmed by French producer Marc Obéron, who hopes to have it completed in time for UN Secretary General Kofi Annan to launch at the 26 Cannes Film Festival.
