Pre-schoolers Star in Karen Walker Eyewear Campaign

Iconic New Zealand fashion designer Karen Walker has launched a new campaign for her Spring ’13 eyewear collection featuring four pre-schoolers – Alice-Rose, Claudia, Elise and Tyler – as the models. The images follow on from the first instalment of the ‘Karen Walker Forever’ campaign which featured women between the ages of 65 and 92 wearing the designer’s quirky sunglasses.

Aged between three and five, the children’s inclusion in the campaign is all about optimism. “The first shoot was based on eternal optimism, and the second part is about the open-eyed, playful optimism that kids bring,” explained Karen Walker.

Contrary to the showbiz adage, “never work with animals or children”, Walker had no difficulties working with the pint-sized models. “They were so professional… They just came in and did the job, and they were lovely to have around. It was a real pleasure,” said Walker.

Over 4,500 images were taken of the four children in order to achieve the campaign’s eight images. “You’ve got to let kids do what they want to do and just be there to capture it. We just wanted them to be themselves.”

Karen Walker’s new sunglasses will be available in stores from September 5.
