Local Talent Lights NY

New Zealanders Hayley Heartbreak, Elspeth Hoskin and Johnson Witehira, winners of the Chorus NZ national competition for tertiary student artists, recently displayed their artwork on the neon billboards of Times Square in New York. The trio’s designs were splashed across 12 massive screens in the Square, including the Nasdaq, ABC, Fox and Sony and 24 digital screens. Heartbreak, (design above) from Auckland’s Media Design School, said: “I saw my name the size of a building, I don’t think you can say that every day.” Communications company Chorus, which organised the promotion, believes it was one of the largest co-ordinated displays ever in Times Square. Heartbreak said it was “priceless” recognition.
