Auckland Ranked World’s #4 Most Cosmopolitan City

Auckland has been identified as the world’s fourth most cosmopolitan city in the 2015 World Migration Report from the International Organisation for Migration.

Only Dubai (83%), Brussels (62%) and Toronto (46%) have larger foreign-born populations than the New Zealand city.

According to the report “cities with highly mobile workforces have particularly high proportions of foreign-born populations”. Dubai is one example as well as Brussels, “which is the headquarters of the European Commission.”

Cities like Auckland are “paying increasing attention to the role of migrants and attempting to create an opportunity structure for natives and newcomers alike through partnerships with migrants, the private sector and civil society.”
