Diva Loves Danny Boy

Soprano Kiri Te Kanawa is a “sucker” for sentimental Irish ballad Danny Boy. Te Kanawa is one of eight musicians asked by the Los Angeles Times to share their favourite love song in the lead up to Valentine’s Day. “When you want a love song it can be one that is very happy but I suppose it was happy but then it had an unhappy ending,” she says. “There’s always a question mark of the love that has been lost. The tragic love, really.” Te Kanawa performs a recital March 12 at the Valley Performing Arts Center, Cal State Northridge, Los Angeles.
