24-Hours in Auckland

“I still feel an urge of excitement whenever I head back to the city of sails,” writes Beck Wadworth in her 24-hour Auckland guide in Vogue Australia.

After arriving she “ventured straight into the heart of Auckland to The Skycity Grand Hotel, known for its artistic and luxe aesthetic.”

It also has the perfect location underneath iconic Sky Tower and “you are spoilt for choice when it comes to delicious restaurants and ‘it’ bars,” according to Wadworth.

For cocktails and dinner she recommends heading to Mexico to indulge in their ceviche and soft shell tacos accompanied by one of the ten different Frida’s Margaritas they serve.

The perfect place for brunch in the city of sails is Odette’s. “Everything about this hidden gem was perfect and delicious”.

Wadworth spent her morning “amidst beautiful clothing, fresh coffee and a touch of pampering” at The Department Store in Takapuna on Auckland’s North Shore, which is  “your one stop shop for a mix of New Zealand’s best fashion brands and designers” and home to “‘it’ hair & beauty salons Stephen Marr and Lucy and The Powder Room.”

Afterwards she drove back into the city to “the hustle and bustle that is Ponsonby Road” to eat at Prego – her “go to for a delicious lunch accompanied by a NZ sauvignon blanc in the sun.”

“A whirlwind trip wouldn’t be the same without a bit of spontaneous/ impulsive shopping,” writes Wadworth, who made her way down Ponsonby Road past the beautiful fashion and homeware boutiques in the afternoon.

If you’re in need of a 3pm coffee, she recommends Foxtrot Parlour in Ponsonby Central.

Another must-see in Auckland, according to Wadworth, is the Auckland waterfront area including Wynyard Quarter and Silo Park.

“From outdoor cinemas and markets to the popular Miss Clawdy Southern American restaurant, this new up-coming area is definitely thriving.”
