New Zealand’s Friendly Airport

Airports are often the least enjoyable part of travelling – while travellers want to enjoy every last moment of their holiday, there’s only so much an airport can offer. However according to Jaunted, Auckland International Airport has changed that by farewelling visitors with a truly New Zealand installation, Pou Manawa.

Described as a “giant projection screen – in tree form – dedicated to all things New Zealand” the nine metre high installation does more than give perspective on the size of the departures terminal. The tree’s canopy is continuously projected with New Zealand imagery, with the images moving in time to music created by local musicians.

Jaunted recommends taking time out from duty free shopping to check Pou Manawa out. “Take in the continuously rotating images depicting carvings, birds and sea life. It’s supposed to represent and symbolize stuff like flight, voyaging and movement, and we have to agree – especially with wide body aircraft right out the window.”

“We’ll try not to get too sappy, but it’s awfully kind of the airport – and in some ways the entire country – to wish us a fond farewell. Until next time New Zealand!”
