Wright takes up reigns

Former Black Caps test captain and coach of India from 2 to 25, John Wright is the new coach of the New Zealand cricket team, taking over from Mark Greatbach beginning with the Boxing Day Twenty2 match against Pakistan. Greatbatch will stay on as the side’s batting coach and will form part of a new selection panel, alongside Glen Turner and Lance Cairns. Wright said: “It’s not about individuals, it’s not about me. It’s about the team, because when you’re picked in this team you’re picked to represent New Zealand. You’re representing that nine-year-old in the street who wants to play for New Zealand and some elderly gentleman listening on radio.”
