How New Zealand Is Coping under Lockdown

As the COVID-19 crisis continues, Forbes hears from their science contributors across the globe, including New Zealand-based Irish writer, Laurie Winkless who, over Twitter, asked a number of New Zealanders to share their stories about coping with the pandemic.

Over the course of a week, she was inundated with stores and commentaries including from Midwife “C” “I am worried for the women I give care to who are in difficult situations; family violence, poverty, homeless, etc.”; Emma, a pharmacist “We’re doing absolutely everything we can to get medication to those who need it, and to keep our staff safe and healthy;” Michael a nurse “Managing these stressors and risks within the current context is hugely difficult, but also a hugely important part of ensuring the health of the population;” and John, a food manager “As a producer of essential food – bread – we have a responsibility to keep our staff as safe as possible so that we can continue to produce food for our community. The most important thing is to take the Level 4 lockdown seriously so we can get through it quicker.”

Full comments from Twitter respondents can be found in Laurie’s Forbes article.
