Cheil CCO Martyn Poynton Takes Two Minutes

New Zealander Malcolm Poynton joined ad agency Cheil Worldwide at the beginning of 2015 as the network’s first global chief creative officer, following celebrated stints at SapientNitro, Ogilvy and Saatchi & Saatchi, Tim Nudd reports for advertising news site, Muse by Clio. Nudd recently interviewed Poynton to learn more about his background, his creative inspirations, and recent and classic work he admires.

Poynton, who is originally from Taupo, is an honorary coach for the New Zealand Yachting Federation and former member of the New Zealand Yachting Team. He has been based in London for a number of years.

He discusses his favourite recent creative projects:

“The two I’m most proud of are our Good Vibes app from Samsung India and our Blood River gaming project Back2Life from Samsung China. Both use mobile to solve real problems that aren’t trendy or ‘of the moment’ but really matter.”

Poynton’s award-winning work includes Dove’s “Campaign for Real Beauty”, Unilever’s smile-activated ice cream vending machine, Foot Locker’s “Sneakerpedia”, and RBS’s pioneering GetCash mobile app.
