All Blacks Legend Jonah Lomu Dies

Former New Zealand rugby star and All Blacks Legend Jonah Lomu has passed away in Auckland today, aged 40.

“We’re lost for words and our heartfelt sympathies go out to Jonah’s family”, said Steve Tew, NZR CEO on The All Blacks Twitter page.

“Jonah was a legend of our game and loved by his many fans both here and around the world”

After his Test debut in 1994, Lomu made 73 appearances for the All Blacks and scored 43 tries in the black jersey.

The rugby player had suffered from a rare kidney disease, which was also the reason why he had to quit playing rugby in 2002.

“Lomu had recently been in the United Kingdom with his family as a spokesman for Heineken during the Rugby World Cup”, as reported in Skynews.com.au.

The rugby player wanted to “give his children a special insight into the game where their father made his name”, according to an article on Stuff.

“It’s a game that has given me so much and it’s an opportunity to show them what their dad used to do”.
