Sir Jerry Takes the Oath

Lieutenant General Sir Jerry Mateparae has been sworn in as the 2th Governor General of New Zealand. The 56-year-old was sworn-in to a five-year term in a formal ceremony in front of Parliament. Following a powhiri and tri-service guard of honour, Sir Jerry took the oath and royal salute. Sir Jerry said he and his wife Janine were ordinary people who had been given a special opportunity. “Looking ahead to our five-year adventure, it is likely that Janine and I will become known better by New Zealanders as we travel together in the Realm of New Zealand and beyond,” Sir Jerry said. “It is our hope that we can encourage people to think about how New Zealanders can make a difference.” He replaces Sir Anand Satyanand.
