Russell Crowe considers Leeds United takeover

New Zealand-born actor Russell Crowe took to social media to address football fans who tweeted him in regards to whether he would take charge of Leeds United FC at Elland Road.

In response to fans begging him to buy Leeds the Oscar-winning actor tweeted: “Anybody else think this is a good idea?”

The idea of Russell Crowe owning Leeds United is not only supported by the club’s fans, but also by Leeds Fans LLP, a group dedicated to supporting fan ownership of the club. “Russell’s a big Leeds supporter, he has a background in fan ownership and we’d love for him to work with us on fan ownership at Leeds United” a spokesperson of the group told Press Association Sports.

The Berhampore, Wellington-born actor used to watch Match of the Day in Australia during his schooldays and adopted Leeds as one of his two favourite teams – the other being Bristol.  “Both teams can be heartbreakers, but that’s the joy of sport” Russell Crowe said.

The Academy Award winning star is already the co-owner of rugby league club the South Sydney Rabbitohs, who won Australia’s NRL in 2014.
