New Zealand’s Best Walks

Two New Zealand walks – the Tongariro Alpine Crossing and  the Rees-Dart Track -have been featured in a Lonely Planet article on Australia’s and New Zealand’s best free walks.

New Zealand’s Tongariro Alpine Crossing (19.5km) boasts priceless views.

“This fabulous one-day trail tiptoes past active volcanoes and luminous lakes,” as reported in the article.

The Rees-Dart Track is described as a “challenging four to five-day adventure near Queenstown that follows the spectacular Rees and Dart Rivers.”

Parts of the track are momentarily closed due to a land slide, but sections of the track still make for excellent day trips.

The article names Bondi to Coogee Beach (Sydney), Ormiston Gorge and Pound (Northern Territory), Mt Feathertop and the Razorback (Victorian Alps), Cape-to-Cape (Western Australia) and  Bartle Frere Trail (Tropical North Queensland) as best free walks in Australia.
