New Zealand Ranked 4th Most Peaceful Country

New Zealand has been ranked the fourth most peaceful country in the 2016 Global Peace Index, produced by the Institute for Economics and Peace. It was identified as the most peaceful country in the Asia Pacific.

Overall “the 2016 Global Peace Index (GPI) shows the world became less peaceful in the last year, reinforcing the underlying trend of declining peace over the last decade.”

  3. Austria
  4. New Zealand
  5. Portugal
  6. Czech Republic
  7. Switzerland
  8. Canada
  9. Japan
  10. Slovenia

The least peaceful countries in the index were identified as Syria, South Sudan, Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia.

The Global Peace Index ranks 163 independent states and territories according to their level of peacefulness and is composed of 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators from highly respected sources.
