Lucy Lawless to Star in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

Former Xena: Warrior Princess Lucy Lawless, 46, will join the cast of American television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D in an unspecified role later this year.

According to TV Line, the show is looking to fill a recurring role for the character Mary Maloney. She is described as “a highly skilled agent who can ‘command any room’ (and boasts ‘effortless sex appeal’).”

The show is based on the Marvel Comics organization S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division), a fictional peacekeeping and spy agency in a world populated with superheroes and numerous supernatural phenomena.

Auckland-born Lawless has also starred in Battlestar Galactica, Spartacus, and Parks and Recreation. In 2013, she appeared in Jane Campion’s miniseries Top of the Lake as Caroline Platt.

The second season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D premieres 23 September on ABC.
