Gin and Stan’s night

Singers Gin Wigmore, 24, and Stan Walker, 19, earned four Tuis apiece at this year’s New Zealand Music Awards held at Auckland’s Vector Arena. Wigmore’s folky debut Holy Smoke won the album of the year award — “the one I was crossing my everything for,” she said in her acceptance speech at the event. She also collected the best pop album and break-through artist awards. The triple-platinum album was also named the year’s biggest seller at the Recording Industry Association of New Zealand event. Walker, who won Australian Idol last year, also picked up four Tuis: as well as the international achievement award for his debut Introducing Stan Walker, he also picked up the people’s choice award, while his hit single ‘Black Box’ won in the highest-selling and airplay record of the year categories. Wigmore and Walker are both now based in Australia. Wellington band the Phoenix Foundation, which earlier in the month announced a new deal with UK-based Memphis Industries, won the best group award for Buffalo.
