Fifty Thousand Kilometre Journey Peddling for the Heart

After two years and 43,000km, New Zealander Jeremy Scott is almost home having been riding his bike from London since 5 October 2011, heading to his final destination, Auckland, by March next year.

He made a brief stop in Yeppoon on his journey south to Brisbane, and it certainly provided a more picturesque backdrop than some of the places he’s visited along the way.

“The hardest cycling I did was in the east of Turkey, it was 20 below freezing, Scott said.

“And then in the desert in China it was 50 degrees.”

He’s cycled through typhoons and sandstorms, and been confronted by the Iranian military, Uzbek thieves and the Filipino Mafia. He’s averaging about 120km a day.

Scott lived in the UK working as a draftsman at an architect firm for 10 years before setting off on his multi-national trip.

He is self-funding the trip and using it as an opportunity to raise money for the Heart Foundation.
