Fat Freddy’s Drop Chat Ahead of BoomTown

Internationally regarded as one of the world’s finest live draws, seven-piece band Fat Freddy’s Drop has a sound that has developed over the years, TNT Magazine reports ahead of the group’s show on the largest reggae stage in the UK, The Lion’s Den at BoomTown Fair.

The most modern of institutions, Fat Freddy’s Drop have sold in excess of three quarters of a million albums independently since the Noughties with a sound that demands to be heard live.

“How does it feel nearing your 1000th show?” TNT’s James Clark asks the band.

“I don’t think any of us has been counting but every year we manage to write new music and get out on the road and tour, we consider to be a blessing and a privilege,” the group says.

“From the beginning it’s always made sense to us to run our own business. We backed ourselves; amongst our crew we felt we enough smarts to take it on and make it work.

“We have eight core members in Freddy’s and each individual has their own family to fend for, so we’ve always ensured that we are fully involved and in control of our future.”

The band loves playing for UK audiences, who “don’t hold back.”

“Our UK fans are amazing … Our two shows at the Brixton Academy earlier this year were off the hook, especially the second night. [It was] possibly one of the best gigs of our career in my opinion.”

BoomTown Fair is on from 8 to 14 August in Hampshire, UK.
