Brain-Eating Rose McIver Owns TV Role

New Zealander Rose McIver, star of iZombie, one of the Los Angeles Times’ best new television shows of 2015, is “incognito as a coroner’s assistant, find[ing] the space between Veronica Mars and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and own[ing] it.”

McIver plays Olivia “Liv” Moore, M.D, a medical resident who after attending a party, dies and wakes up as a zombie. In order to remain undead, she must feed on brains. Liv takes a job at a morgue where she has access to the brains she requires, and with each brain eaten she absorbs new memories and traits. She then begins to solve the deaths of the victims whose brains she’s eaten with the help of her boss, Dr Ravi Chakrabarti, the only one who knows her secret.

In November this year, McIver spoke with LA Confidential magazine about, amongst other things, whether she actually enjoys eating fake brains.

“No way. Gelatin and vegetable juice and hot sauce. Yuck! But it’s a tiny, tiny price to pay. I am so lucky I get to do this job,” McIver, 27, says.

McIver is originally from Auckland. She made her feature film debut in 2009’s The Lovely Bones, directed by Peter Jackson.
