New World wines are doing a roaring trade in the US, in many cases outstripping their European counterparts in sales. “One of the most astonishing success stories has been NZ, which in the [past 15 years] rocketed from 29th largest wine exporter to the US (with only about 13,000 gallons a year) to ninth (1.3 million gallons).”
