This is a great site. I drive the iconic Melbourne trams around the
southeastern suburbs here. I have a great time but see or hear very
little news about things going on in New Zealand. Keep up the good work.

I have slight contact with a few New Zealanders via Facebook, though
they've largely been silent. Today, I learned from a fellow American of
Janet Frame. Further, that friend
gave me the impression that it is commonly believed that New Zealanders,
when in Australian schools, easily excel. That made it sound like
they're the Ubermenschen of downunder. Have I spoken truth? Your heroes
section is impressive indeed. Be well, Claude

I would like to pass on a website:
www.kotahitanga.co.uk It is
partly inspired by the discussion around identity and the search for a
new New Zealand flag, but my intention is to contribute by talking
simply about ‘vision’, as a vital context for any discussions we have
about identity. I have heard plenty of talk about the merits of new flag
designs. I have developed a version myself, though it is not possible to
claim ownership of a design which owes everything to Maori artists and
visionaries. But designs can get in the way, and change the focus of
discussions. My question is simply: What vision do we have for Aotearoa?
Is it a place where tangata whenua can acknowledge a responsibility and
guardianship for the land? Can tangata whenua become a notion embraced
by Maori, Pakeha and peoples of all races simply as an acknowledgement
that we are all borne of the land, regardless of where and when we
arrive? This is the future I see.

I was wondering if you sell any other of the Cookie Time range or just
the normal cookie. Also, how much is shipping to Melbourne, Australia?

Ed: Unfortunately we only stock the chocolate chip Cookie Time Cookies.
To calculate the cost of shipping to Melbourne, please follow through
the order process as the price of shipping depends on how many cookies
you purchase.

This is a really informative and interesting site. A great way to keep
up to date with what talented Kiwis are getting up to around the rest of
the world, sharing stories, some of which we would otherwise not hear
about.

I just wanted to say hi! I was born in Rotorua and now live in Montreal.
Been living here for five years now. I left when I was 18. Miss home and
would really like to move back some time but I don’t think I will be
able to soon. I have family here and things are good! Love the website
and glad I found it and would love to hear what is going on down there!

I would like to raise significant and serious concerns regarding the
plight of small business owners whose businesses and livelihood have
been severely affected by the Canterbury earthquake. Many of these
businesses are situated in areas of Christchurch where old buildings
with severe structural damage are awaiting repair or demolition. For
safety reasons, these buildings and some adjoining streets are
barricaded off, preventing street and footpath access. In the midst of
all of this mayhem, many small business owners whose shops have only
experienced minimal damage have managed to reopen for trade. However,
they face insurmountable obstacles in trying to obtain anything like the
sustainable livelihood they enjoyed prior to the earthquake. Potential
customers faced with the visual barriers, the fear of not knowing if it
is actually safe to enter an area, coupled with the difficulties of
access and lack of parking, are not patronising these small businesses
that have managed to re-open. They are, in effect, open in name only.
Some business owners in these areas have only one or two customers per
day. Yet they still need to meet their overheads of rent, power, stock,
etc. How do we get people back into the city?

Hi Brian, I hope you’re well. I have just returned from a two month
sabbatical to NZ, a road trip that confirms everything I hold dear about
this amazing country I call my motherland. Despite the horrors of the
earthquake and concerns on loved ones welfare, there remains something
magical about the natural landscape and long white cloud that fills the
vast sky. I love you, New Zealand. Aroha

Do you have a reunion information site to put about school, work and
family reunions that are coming up? So the overseas Kiwis know about
them.

Is this site still being updated? All the posts that I could see were
from end 2009. It would be great to get some new(er) information. Cheers

Some things take time. I have only just discovered the fine web site
through seeking info on the whereabouts of
Rewi Alley's collection of negatives
and photographs. Does anybody know where the bulk of his photographs are
housed?

I am looking for information about Richard Arthur Hould (aka Ra Hould/Ronald
Sinclair). Born in Dunedin in 1924, it is my understanding that he was a
child prodigy violinist. He came to the attention of Hollywood in 1936
and was cast in the first film starring Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney.
His last film in 1942 was with Ronald Reagan. After serving in the US
army during WWII, he returned to Hollywood as a film editor. He died in
1992. I can’t seem to find anything about his early life in New Zealand.
How did he come to the attention of the US movie business when most of
his peers were right from Pasadena or Santa Monica? Your help is
appreciated.
