In checking out one of your "heroes", I noticed that you have no mention of either Vaughan Jones or Roy Kerr, probably the two greatest intellects that New Zealand produced in the last century. I urge you to Google them and then update your hero list.

I have been a less than frequent reader of the NZEDGE, purely through a really hectic lifestyle. I enjoy it when I get the time to read it however. I am currently in Vancouver for a year working on the 2010 Olympics as Venue Manager at BC Place where the Opening/Closing Ceremonies are taking place.

Hello there, I came across your site whilst Googling something on Margaret Moth. There is nothing on the web about her at all - just the recent CNN documentary. What an AMAZING woman she is! What an inspiration! Tragically, she is in the final stages of cancer at the moment. I very strongly believe you should be putting her on your site. A New Zealander to be proud of! In the meantime, should you have ANY information on her at all (biographical details) - I would be very much obliged if you could send this to me. I'm dealing with inspirational people with my high school ESL students. Thanks very much.

I am wondering if you could help me. After watching the CNN doc on Margaret Moth I wanted to know more about her. Unfortunately, every time I find what seems to be a site which might have some information about her (other than CNN)I get a virus alert. This has happened about 10 times. Your site was the only one which did not give a virus alert. Could you direct me to a web site where I can read about this fascinating woman?

Someone please ask Mr. Peter Jackson to consider creating a 4th Lord of the Rings. What happens after the Return of the King is almost another story in itself.

I am trying to find out about a Nurse Currie who was a midwife in the early 1900s. She attended the births of three of my uncles and aunts at Lighthouses at Cape Brett, Cape Campbell and Castle Point. There may have been other babies who did not survive. Also my mother, Charlotte May Creamer, was a nurse at Avondale Mental Hospital in 1936. Any information you have or a note on where to find it would be appreciated.

David Lange is nominated as the ideas man behind the anti-nuclear policy. You have done an injustice to his fellow MP, Marilyn Waring, who, through her research, investigating the assumptions and oversights in established economic theory, questioned why fresh air / clean water / peace and no warfare (and nuclear and other pollutants that come as a fall-out of war) were not included in the calculation of costs. This underpins the environmental changes being proposed currently – factoring in the cost of the clean up / or charging the industry polluting everyone’s air space while a small group secure short-term profits for themselves at the expense of others. It was a feminist issue, as well as an economic one, developed by reviewing the original texts of Keynes and Smith. Possibly if you note David Lange was willing to advocate and promote the ideas developed by fellow MP Marilyn Waring – he was not the creative ideas person, social researcher or published writer of this research done by Marilyn Waring. Her book title says it all so well - 'Counting for Nothing'. Please pass this e-mail to Kevin Roberts who compiled this list so he is better informed of the facts. Marilyn Waring being off the list is tantamount to leaving Germaine Greer off an Australian list- saying more about the culture in which influential women have been viewed and overlooked.

I am a nephew of Charlie Upham’s who visited his farm on numerous occasions as a child. He did as much for our family as he did his own, my father having died when I was 7 years old (in 1952). It may be rumoured that he would allow no German-made car on his property, but I can assure you that this is definitely not true. In fact, he admired German equipment and German engineering prowess and on one occasion actually told me that soldiers preferred German equipment to their own if they could get it - except for the American Jeep which both sides valued highly. I and friends brought German cars including Volkswagens and Mercedes onto Landsdowne on many occasions.

I’ve been chasing biographical info on Walter G Atack who, I suspect, was brother to William H. Atack (I'm finishing a PhD in sports history). The two have been confused in past publications as their careers both professional & sporting are remarkably similar. I found this cartoon of W.H., & thought it might be useful for you to add to your excellent bio of rugby's first whistle blower. Meanwhile, I'll keep looking for W.G.! (He was editor of the Canterbury Times). This link should take you to the image. http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&cl=search&d=NZTR19130315.2.20.1&srpos=2&e=-------10--1----0atack-all Hope this is useful, MT.

Hi, have just noticed you've had contact from Kiwis in Geelong, Melbourne. I lived and worked there a very long time ago now, and have family still living there. I'm a bit curious whether we may have friends/contacts in common. It'd be cool to find my cousins have made contact too! Oh yeah, I agree with the comments made about Burt...the fastest little Indian, a true straight talking, unassuming lovely Kiwi man! He certainly deserves a spot on your heroes page Keep up the wonderful work you do nzedge.

I'm interviewing regional entrepreneurs and you may know some! I have a series of books coming out, the first launching in October. It's called "Lifting the Lid on Quiet Achievers - Success Stories of Regional Entrepreneurs". I will then niche further with artists, farmers, women, youth etc. I'd like to cover Australia and New Zealand - as New Zealand is a very very special place with many amazing people with stories to share (including some of my coaching clients and colleagues). Cheering you on!

I think I was one of the very original folks to follow your site many years ago. It is a fabulous site and well done to you guys for continuing to fund it personally. A big thank you. I continue to spread the word that people should track the site and get engaged, especially if they are off-shore Kiwis. Best regards.

To raise funding for Headley Court Armed Forces Rehabilitation Centre in the UK, we are aiming to retrace the escape route that Nancy Wake used to cross the Pyrenees in 1943(?). However, the major stumbling block is the exact route! We have done a lot of research in the UK, including through the Special Operations Executive museum and Enemy Lines Memorial Service, but we cannot find any record of the precise route. We could just recreate it using a start and finish point, but we want to be as historically accurate as possible. Are you able to provide us with any further information or know of anywhere else that we can contact? We'd appreciate any help at all. I look forward to hearing from you.
