Adrienne, Homemaker, Ada, Michigan
I am curious as to why Burt Munro isn't mentioned as a 'Speedster' in
that section, especially as he is famous for land speed records and the
movie "The Fastest Indian" was all about him and his
achievements. Also, how about John Walker, Herb Elliott - Olympic runners
who received medals. W F Moore - world recognised painter of landscapes
etc. What about Sir William Lilley who was the first in the world to
perform 'prenatal intrauterine surgery' in 1963 and as a result thousands
of babies have been saved throughout the world by this pioneer. Just some
thoughts. Great website, just love the feelings of connections it gives,
even though there is a separation of thousands of miles from home.

website of hte same name. I have a video and photo of it if you are

Raymond, Director, Whangarei
Great site very positive and informative. New Zealand is a Great country
with great citizens. While most media here seem to chase only the
negatives that are sensation grabbing headlines, it is refreshing that
NZEdge and some others can report GOOD NEWS that dose far out way the
NEGATIVE SPIN. Our Company, Zephyr Energy is investing $50m at Marsden
Point in Purpose built Facilities to Produce Large European designed Wind
Turbines. We will be employing 200-250 staff in the manufacturing alone.
The above for Wind Farms in New Zealand and Australia. KEEP IT SPINNING.
Thu November 6 11:02:34 2008
Jonathan, Student, Montreal
A Canadian whose life was changed by the few months I spent in New Zealand
in 1988, I offer the following flag suggestion in gratitude. The Maori
name for your country, Aotearoa, the land of the long white cloud, is
highly evocative, and there is a particular billowy line in European
heraldry for clouds. Using white over green one gets this: http://makepeace.ca/nz/.
Not only does it evoke a long white cloud over verdant land, the two
colours relate to North Island (the original long white cloud) and South
Island (named for greenstone in Maori) respectively. The interlocking line
also evokes the coming together of Maori and non-Maori in an unbreakable
bond. It's simple enough for a child to draw, blends Maori names with
Western heraldry, and shows unity in diversity. Best wishes in finding the
right flag. Just don't think you need to imitate the maple leaf in order
to succeed. You'll succeed in your own way and in your own time.

In the books/information section on Beatrice Tinsley, you might also
like to include Christine Cole Catley's excellent book “Bright Star:

Valnor, Engineering Student, Edwardsville, USA
Is there a NZ architecture/engineering 'group', or green-living
environmental sustainability forum? I grew up in Upper Hutt, worked in
Palmerston North, and now live in USA Saint Louis Metro Region. There is a
couple of news articles in which I'm included (Madison County Illinois).
However I'm just starting out in the 'green sphere' of things. So was
wondering if you could name a few NZ-USA contacts or support groups. P.S.
Keep up the great work, love the site, I show it off to all the NZ
wannabe's.

Would love to make a plug for our next international singing star
Bevan Gardner of Dunedin. He is touring NZ as John Denver with sensational
reviews. This young, partially blind, 21 year old multi-instrumentalist is
a fine young man with tremendous talent. Looks like he could tour the
world with this show and has been offered the opportunity to sing about
200-odd John Denver songs that have never been recorded as yet. The tour
has been backed by overseas musicians and Bevan has been lauded by the
Denver family.

some stage.

Thomas, Duvall, Washington, USA
Thank you very much for your fine piece on Joseph Sinel. I never had the
pleasure of meeting him but he knew both my grandfather and my father. My
father (Robert Matthiesen) was a well known art director and designer in
the Seattle area and Jo Sinel was considered iconic and much admired in
our family as I grew up in the 1950's. Your piece filled in some gaps of
information and provided excellent source material.

Mike, Los Angeles, USA
My Dad was on the 1957 trip to the Antarctic with Dr Fuchs and Sir Edmund
Hillary, as was the father of a classmate of mine. He had a super 8 movie
of the expedition, which I converted to VHS years ago, and recently to DVD
which I have now uploaded. If you are interested, you can search on
"Sir Edmund Hillary Antarctic 1957" on Google Video or Youtube
and you will find it. If you want information on the trip my Dad is a
walking encyclopedia and he would probably love to talk to you if you are
interested contact@nzedge.com. I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Fuchs in
1987 and have a cool picture of him and his penguin hedge in Cambridge!
