We welcome "The Edge" due to the selection of interesting and
thought provoking articles that it assembles. Having two sons at USA
"colleges" we're pleased that our youngest (his own decision) is
heading to either Otago or Canterbury Uni in 2006. Gives us the "feet
in two countries" we've been trying to establish for some time. It's
amazing the awareness of New Zealand that folk even in the USA South are
now gaining and makes us aware of what we are missing when people are
incredulous that we elect to live here in Houston. Just goes to show you
can't have everything. Regards...... Thanks for the wonderful publication.

Hi, I have been living in Oz for about 18 years and am beginning to pine
for home more and more. Circumstances (family, work etc) mean I can't just
pick up and come home for good but that's my goal eventually. Websites
like this one help me keep in touch with what's happening at home and keep
those memories of our beautiful land and the kiwi pride and patriotic
juices flowing!!

Just when I thought I had New Zealand homesickness out of my system (after
an Australian stay of 16 years) I find your website! Wonderful content and
ideas - keep up the good work.

I am from the north eastern portion of the USA and have become aware of
New Zealand via Peter Jackson's LOTR Trilogy. I stumbled upon this site
doing research for a Powerpoint project in computer class, through a
Google search. I would like to commend the creators of this site, I found
their rich illustrations of New Zealand history, very poignant and
interesting. I would love to one day visit Wellington and surrounding
areas. With my last bit of feedback, I would like to thank New Zealand for
one James William Robertson Napier, a young Kiwi actor from such
children's shows as The Tribe (Techno Jay) and Power Rangers Dino
Thunder(Red Ranger Conner McKnight). Thanks ever so much and I will
definitely be back here again soon.

I have only found NZEDGE like by chance as I have been living in Aus for
13 months BUT still a very proud KIWI from the Mainland, Dunedin that is,
and only touched the edge of your website. Keep up the good work.

Message for David Baigent and others. I have lived outside New Zealand
for more than two-thirds of my life. However I have always been able to
vote as I am still on the roll (presently at an address I used when at
home during an election in 1989) and have returned at least once every
three years. Last election I was able to vote in the privacy of my own
computer, printing out my voting papers on my printer and then faxing them
to New Zealand. The Electoral Commission then promised that for the next
election we could complete the process entirely at home with a couple of
keystrokes. Surely a visit home every three years is not too much....to
smell the real air, see the real people, check out the real beer and
maintain your voting rights.
LAWYER, NEW YORK,
USA
With reference to the right to vote in New Zealand after an absence of
over three years: I agree that on the face of it no country should exclude
its law abiding citizens from the right to vote. What is the concern that
leads to this? That the expat is by the very fact of living away from the
country therefore ill-informed about the affairs of his country? In
today's interconnected world that presumption is clearly not valid. That
if you don't pay taxes you've lost the right to have a say in how the
taxes are spent? But that doesn't stand up either as many New Zealand
residents don't pay taxes yet have the right to vote. I pay taxes in the
United States to each of the federal, state and city authorities, but yet
I cannot vote here either as I have chosen not to become a citizen of the
US. I hold a "Permanent Resident Card" and have done so for
nearly 20 years, and have paid taxes all that time but I still can't vote.
New Zealand expats in other jurisdictions may be able to vote there even
if not in NZ, but the right to vote in more than one country, the one of
citizenship and the one of residence, should not be the basis for the New
Zealand situation where the citizen who lives overseas is excluded. What
hope of change?

My son who is 28 recently moved to New Zealand with a work visa of one
year. He is a college graduate in journalism and worked for an advertising
agency for four years. He quit his job and moved there and is going to
work at whatever he can to have this New Zealand opportunity. Someone
recently wrote that New Zealand is "Eden on Earth". From what my
son is telling me, it sounds like that is true. I am planning to visit him
there in about October. Thanks for this website, I'm going to forward to
him in Wellington. He is already sending back some incredible pictures of
this most beautiful country.

GRAPHIC DESIGN, TE PUKE, NEW ZEALAND
I am excited and inspired by this site, its great! I think the brand
federation are also doing a good job of reinforcing the NZEDGE idea with
their New Zealand inspired clothing saying things such as "I call New
Zealand home" etc. It's all exciting and fun and its really neat that
people are so proud to be New Zealanders. It's just wicked!
CEO, AUCKLAND, NEW
ZEALAND
Love the site, love the country, and love what you're doing. The world
will be coming to Aotearoa to learn the arts of leading wisely with grace
that we might all live well.
DOCTOR, AUCKLAND,
NEW ZEALAND
As a traveled New Zealander, who has worked quite a bit in Europe, was
delighted to learn of your existence via the NZ Herald. Well done for
something so positive! Am looking forward to learning more and being a
part.
ADVERTISING REP,

Wow, I came home to New Zealand and lost my elderly parents. My friends
and siblings are all still overseas. Thank you for making me
feel at home. My girlfriend in Dubai (an ex bossy South African) wants me
to pack up and go there......yet the other night she rang and said she
wants to come back to New Zealand for a visit.......I guess I shall stay
here and know I shall hear from your site that I am not alone in New
Zealand for now it has been 10 years back. I have traveled provincial and
city New Zealand in this time. I should have taken a teachers advice at
primary school to be a writer.... Oh well, it isn't too late to fulfill
your heart's desire now we have the net. And I have "outside"
thinking to help me.
SECURITY OPERATOR,
IRAQ
Although I've been here in Iraq for almost a year, still feel I'm on the
outside looking in trying to make sense of this part of the world.
MOTHER, OTARA
I think you should go hard an get rid of all that shit P .
It has
killed 2 members of my family and many are still addicted. if your project
works then I sincerely thank you.
BUILDER, WHAKATANE,

After reading this article, I am really inspired by the Leaders of the
rival gangs stepping up and acknowledging the crises and destruction that
"P" is causing in this land. In saying this I also know that
this drug is not only produced in gang organisations it is getting
manufactured in the upper, middle and lower class. Our people (TANGATA
WHENUA) only make up a small percent of this world's population, we are a
very staunch and unique people. Everything we do whether good or bad in
this generation is going to multiply for our up and coming generation.
This is a great start in the fight against "P". Here is a
thought: Is it the high? Is it the money? Is it the power? Is it worth
losing what matters most to you? Your Whanau? Your Friends? Your
Maoritanga? Kia ora

CLEANER/HOUSEWIFE, KATOOMBA, AUSTRALIA
I have been in Australia for 18 years and have never been home, but dream
of it all the time. I just found out my aunty has cancer and not long to
live, I want to go home, to see my family and catch up with old friends,
take my family home to meet them, maybe one day when I sort things out
over there, so for now I will just keep looking for my mum. Maybe someone
out there can help me find her, her name is Rosemary Tautahi. Thanks.
NURSE, PARAMEDIC,

Wow, I am amazed at the great number of inspirational stories from Kiwis
living abroad, wouldn't it be nice to return home to share them in person.
I can only imagine the strong desire for Kiwi's to want to see and
experience other countries, because as a Canadian, I have so much country
of my own left unexplored and one once told me that you can travel from
Auckland to the South Island in less than a few days. It doesn't surprise
me that Kiwis seek knowledge and worldly experiences out from such young
ages. My only woe is that when does one then make the decision to return
to their homeland to share these same experiences with others? Or is this
just not the Kiwi way? Always with greatest appreciation and love, Robyn
HOLISTIC HEALTH

How proud it makes me feel to be a New Zealander, reading through the list of
great kiwi heroes on this site. We truly have a wonderful country, with a
history steeped in disproportionate success.
PR ADVISER, AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND
This is a great site that just keeps getting better and better. I used to be
registered when I lived in London and now I'm home and settled again it's
great to be part of the NZEDGE Whanau again.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL, CORK, IRELAND
I want to trace the family of some cousins. They were two brothers killed
at Monte Cassino, Italy, in the assault during WWII. I don't even know
their surnames. My late Mother often spoke of them but I never asked her
their names.
SALERNES,
FRANCE
I've only briefly looked at your site last night but the idea of it looks
good. Some of it's content is what I've often wondered about, so it's good
to see that you have put the site together.
