"A friend sent me a copy on email of Kevin Roberts recent speech to the Compaq Conference. As an expatriate New Zealander (but always a New Zealander), I would like to register. I run a training programme in my specialty, with sixteen postgraduate students (two are New Zealanders). I am also Director of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for Dental Health Services Victoria. Keep up the great work!"

"Hey man, just a quick thanks for the work you all are doing @ nzedge. I'm a 26 yr old creative kiwi kid who is getting on the big silver bird in a week, the stories and messages have been a real inspiration, and helped give me the confidence to hold my head high. Its a real asset to have places like nzedge for people to come home to wherever we are. Keep it up, youll probablly never hear from everybody you've helped, you're doing a great thing"

"Fantastic website, threatening to make me homesick... Especially interested in the 'Heroes' section. I already knew a lot about Rutherford because he is a sort of academic 'ancestor' for my research, but I only vaguely knew of the others like Pickering, Wilkins and Tinsley, so it was great to learn more about them. Why the hell don't they teach more about these sort of people and their accomplishments in school???"

"I look forward to being able to contribute to the nzedge. As an individual who has specialised in bringing Internet Broadcasting technologies to New Zealand I am confident that this web site can provide valuable support to those who are taking this Vision to the World."
Director, Wellington, NZ

"Brian, it is encouraging to see someone in your position now still referencing your time with the student media at Waikato University (Nexus) as a career highlight as it was mine - columnist for Nexus 1993-4; Manager of Static Television at Waikato 1996-7, entrant and organiser of 'Plan Nine student video - film competition' for 5 years. Now at the yellow pages in Hamilton, a sideways step, but one which pays my bill with the IRD racked up during the above period. With regards to nzedge. I refer to your site for 'attitudinal re-education' on a regular basis and the site's basic philosophy of being the best you can be every day certainly pays results. Without sounding  sycophantic I can attribute some of my increase in output at work and at home to reading the nzedge site. Every day I assess my performance from the day before or that morning and decide whether I have done the best job possible during that day and set a new goal for the following day. This may be as little as getting an extra piece of artwork or paperwork finished after hours or making sure I have set time aside to do the dishes or a piece of extra cleaning to keep relations favourable in the flat. More importantly, I used to do this in a negative light, focusing on what I hadn't done instead of just bloody doing it. I am reaching critical mass. The play-station has been sold and the Sky subscription, will be reassessed after the rugby season. In the fast paced advertising racket around here I have found this extra help very valuable so thank yourself and Kevin for providing this platform."

"I've followed Kevin's speeches / concepts for a few years - both while I was living in the UK and here. It's fantastic stuff. It's people like Kevin that actually make New Zealand the great place it is. Keep at it!"

"For too long the nay-sayers and knockers have held the upper hand in NZ but the times are ripe for change; it's time to celebrate the achievers in EVERY field and turn our size and location into strengths, not weaknesses. When you add that to our natural ingenuity, you have a succesful formula. Last night I was talking to a leading NZ exporter and the conversation turned to the Labour Government. My own personal prejudice immediately leapt into the back of my mind and I expected this mid-50's white NZ male to start complaining about the Employment Contracts Act or the higher tax rates. Instead, all I heard was praise. Praise for the fact that this man had seen more Labour politicians and their delegates in his office since the last election then he had ever seen in the whole National era. They came to speak to him and ask him: "How can we make this country a great exporter?", "How can we stop companies moving to Australia?", "How can we be successful?". It seems the right priorities are being focused on - and it's not too late."

I am a Cuban-born American citizen who is not only mesmerized with the beauty of New Zealand but also with the warmth of its people. "Thank you Brian for being one of the few who are not calling Coutts and Butterworth traitors. They have both been magnificent servants of NZ sailing and without them we probably would never have in the position of defending the New Zealand, sorry, America's cup. Give them a break and let some new talent emerge."
NZ

"Thank you for your liaison with the correspondent from Hunterville, we have made contact and he knows my family and nephew. I'm hope I'm not a carping bastard and barring a few grammatical hiccups in the piece on Sir Keith Park, I found it very interesting EXCEPT you have reversed Churchill's famous quote!! It was so much owed BY so many TO so few. Oops.

I don't know whether Dr David Clouston is still alive in Wellington, probably not. He was a Battle of Britain Spitfire pilot who never wrote about his experiences to my knowledge...later qualified in medicine and was Acting Superintendent of Porirua mental hospital for years...never being made Superintendent despite doing the job well because he was a bit politically blunt. David was having a great deal of difficulty with his eyesight in latter years because what many don't know is that high level reconnaissance flights meant they were on oxygen for regular periods and this apparently has a bad effect on the eyes later. I recall him saying that they were both fighting and playing hard with the result that if a pilot got a local girl in the family way, they would cover for him by telling the distraught parents that he'd been shot down, baring his breast to the Nazi foe.

Separately I recall some publicity material from the Royal NZ Air Force a fews years ago, pointing out that New Zealanders made up an extraordinary percentage of pilots in the Royal Air Force during the second World War, far above the percentage one could expect on the basis of the NZ population. Also I recall another New Zealand bombing crew member who got the VC for actually crawling out onto the wing of a crippled bomber to put out an engine fire which threatened its survival. They got home but I believe the VC was posthumous because he was killed later.

Its all very well reminding us of top New Zealanders' contributions to the world but a pyramid has to have a base and as the former New Zealand Seamen's Union President "Pincher" Martin used to say; "There's nothing too good for the workers" (he had been a merchant seaman during the war, not that he talked about it much)."

"What a great site! Found you from a banner on XTRA. I usually look at the NZ News during my lunch break here in Eden Prairie, Minnesota and caught the banner with Rutherford and decided to give it a try. Really enjoyed the item about "White Mouse" - never heard of her before I saw it on your site, especially as we have a friend here who worked for in the resistance in Germany during WWII escorting upwards of 400 people out of the country. Most of the others I know from my school days in Upper Hutt. I have you bookmarked and keep checking back. What about an item on Richard Pierce the aviator?"

"Just reading your newsletter no. 14 gave me an idea to put to you. Why not take this site that you have developed so well into being a true Portal ie the virtual globalgold lounge for global kiwis to hang out in and network. Imagine the analogy of the airport lounge in say LA for Air New Zealand - where you do not know who you will meet, but likely they will be kwis and interesting ones - chance encounters, conversations , deals done, ideas exchanged , add in the capacity to advertise projects, businesses, etc, post up discussion threads. If you set up a advertising board (for members only) then you could have a revenue stream from that. I guess it is the issue of saying why not have the kiwis in your mailing llist the chance to join a GLOBAL CLUB . Think of how much dynamic leverage that could add to your existing movement.

I am currently in Melbourne setting up of a global Institute of Foresight based at Swinburne University. so I am thinking along these lines for my own project because to be successful I have to engage the practitioners of foresight around the world -provide them a 'home base' - there is only one way - via a portal. Anyway if you want to converse more about the 'edge global gold club' idea let me know in the meantime I think you are doing a great job"
