Zealand Society
Established
in 1927 as a dining club for New Zealanders in London. Exists to promote the
interests of New Zealand in the UK and to promote good relations between
Britain and New Zealand. Its patron
is HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, and Vice-Patron is the NZ High Commissioner. A social and cultural
club for ex-pat New Zealanders living in Britain and also for British
citizens who might have lived in New Zealand or have strong business
connections. Members, aged from about 35 upwards, live all over the UK.
Organises a wide range of functions and has just opened a Scottish Branch.
Current membership is over 500 (individuals, combined and
corporate). Current President:

Ranana London Maori Club
Since the 1950's,
Ngati Ranana provides NZers in the UK and anyone interested, the
opportunity to learn about and embrace Maori culture. This is through
participation in performances throughout the UK and Europe. Also,
established in 1997, Te Kohanga Reo is a parent run organisation for
London-based parents to teach, learn and retain Te Reo/Tikanga Maori -
Maori language and culture.

Zealand Studies Association
The
NZSA is a member based organisation which offers reduced fees to an annual
conference, a journal - British Review of New Zealand Studies -
Kakapo Books publications, and a newsletter. Since 1994 an annual
conference has been organised, held in London at either the Institute of
Commonwealth Studies, or New Zealand House, which attracts speakers from
the international community; previous participants have included Judith
Binney, C.K. Stead, Michael King, Anthony McCarten, and Don McGlashan. It
provides a forum for the social, cultural, political, and economic study
of NZ.
